About the Host:

Hello! I’m Carmen, the Director of Bravery at the Myofunctional Therapy Training Academy.

Not that long ago, my own career & life was nothing to brag about.

As a dental hygienist of 16 years I was tired of the long hours, constant aches and dreaded Monday's.  Ultimately, I was tired of building someone else's dream.

I desired waking up excited to work -- with a career that gave me freedom, fulfillment and financial success.

Now, I enjoy a life that I'm bonkers about.  I completely retired from dental hygiene for an amazing career in Myofunctional Therapy.  I enjoy flexible hours working from home, my calendar is 100% under my control, I work remotely from dream locations -- in my yoga pants -- I've helped thousands of people, and I finally get to say "I love what I do" and I believe it.

Years later I have the amazing job of helping dental hygienists build a life they are bonkers about too by showing them how to build a profitable myofunctional therapy business.

Hey, I'm so glad you're here. Today we are going to be talking about nailing your client conversations. This is an area that I know a lot of people struggle with. You might find yourself feeling like you're not very confident when it comes to having conversations about your myofunctional therapy services or product. It might make you feel like a greasy car salesman trying to sell somebody a used Subaru. You might not feel polished enough to actually sound like you know what you're doing, or you might wonder how to promote yourself without blatantly asking somebody to hire you.

Here’s what I hear a lot: "I took my myofunctional therapy course years ago and would love to start helping people if only I had some confidence. How do I gain confidence to talk to people? I have imposter syndrome because I don’t know how this works. How do I get clients so I can get some practice?"

Learning how to have conversations with confidence will transform how you talk with people. It will help you move from feeling awkward and unsure to confidently knowing what you're bringing to the table. You’ll actually look forward to talking about your services and how you can help people.

Every conversation is an opportunity to build trust, educate, and guide others. Effective communication helps you convert hot leads into clients. It’s a numbers game in myofunctional therapy. Many students think, "I built this business; where are the people?" When I ask if they are talking to potential clients, they often say, "No, I’m afraid" or "I don’t feel confident."

If it takes talking to 30 people to get 3 to book an assessment, you need to talk to people. That’s the biggest thing: you can’t turn potential clients into cash unless you’re having conversations.

In this episode, we discuss three ways to gain confidence in your client conversations:

1. Know Your Stuff
This is important. You cannot half-ass the myofunctional therapy world. You don’t have to know everything, but you do need to give clear answers that aren’t total BS. Frequently asked questions like these are key:

What is orofacial myofunctional therapy?
What are orofacial myofunctional disorders?
Why is nasal breathing healthier than mouth breathing?
What are tongue ties, and why do they matter?
If you’re hearing a question repeatedly, make sure you can answer it confidently. Even if you don’t know the answer on the spot, let them know you’ll follow up. It’s about building trust.

2. Practice Makes Perfect
The more you practice answering questions, the more natural and confident you’ll become. Whether you use note cards, legal pads, or another learning method, rehearse frequently asked questions until your responses are clear and authentic. Avoid sounding like a car salesman or giving robotic answers. Instead, strive for authentic, meaningful conversations.

3. Change Your Mindset
Your clients will mirror your mindset. If you don’t believe in your services, they won’t either. Believe in your value, even if you haven’t worked with a client yet. Borrow confidence from mentors or trusted peers if necessary. Think of professionals like heart surgeons—they don’t have hands-on experience with patients during training, but they trust in the process. Trust your training and the impact you can make.

These three strategies—knowing your stuff, practicing, and shifting your mindset—will help you nail client conversations and grow your myofunctional therapy business.
