About the Host:

Hello! I’m Carmen, the Director of Bravery at the Myofunctional Therapy Training Academy.

Not that long ago, my own career & life was nothing to brag about.

As a dental hygienist of 16 years I was tired of the long hours, constant aches and dreaded Monday's.  Ultimately, I was tired of building someone else's dream.

I desired waking up excited to work -- with a career that gave me freedom, fulfillment and financial success.

Now, I enjoy a life that I'm bonkers about.  I completely retired from dental hygiene for an amazing career in Myofunctional Therapy.  I enjoy flexible hours working from home, my calendar is 100% under my control, I work remotely from dream locations -- in my yoga pants -- I've helped thousands of people, and I finally get to say "I love what I do" and I believe it.

Years later I have the amazing job of helping dental hygienists build a life they are bonkers about too by showing them how to build a profitable myofunctional therapy business.

Hey, I'm Carmen, and welcome to Myo Life. That's short for my outrageous life, which is exactly the kind of life I get to live since I found the courage to ditch dental hygiene and build a life I'm bonkers about as a myofunctional therapist and entrepreneur. Here you will find all the things myo business and how to build a life that you, too, are bonkers about. I'm very happy you're here. Shall we dive in?

Hey, hey, and welcome back to Myo Life, the podcast for burned out hygienists who are ready to stop cleaning teeth and start building businesses that matter.

I'm Carmen, your brutally honest, slightly sarcastic guide on the road from hygiene burnout to business badassery, and today I'm serving up some serious strategy on a topic that might have you stuck. How the heck do I post content that actually gets clients? You know the kind—the kind that gets people to stop scrolling, the kind that makes them think, “Oh wow, this chick gets me.” And the kind that leads to actual consults, not just pity likes from your cousin Becky.

If you've ever stared at your Instagram wondering what to say, or you've deleted 37 captions because you felt salesy or awkward, my friend, this one's for you.

All right, so let's dive in: why you're scared and why that's a good sign. You might be a little bit nervous, just like I was, to show up online—really, because you care. I cared what people thought about me. I didn't want to come off as pushy, I didn't want to sound like a walking infomercial, and I didn't want my coworkers giving me the bombastic side eye in the break room. But the bottom line is—you cannot build a business if nobody knows that you exist. And the thing you want to remember is: you don't need to dance on reels or shout into a ring light. You just need to create content that connects with your humans. That’s what this episode is about.

So I'm going to be talking about what I call the three E's of connection-based content. It’s a simple but powerful framework I teach to my clients: educate, entertain, engage.

Let’s break it down:

1. Educate – In terms that a fifth grader could understand. Say something different. Don’t be a mouthpiece. Use your tone and personality to make it land. Simplify it. Help people get it.

2. Entertain – This helps you build that know-like-trust factor. Show your personality. When they feel like they already know you, becoming a client is easy.

3. Engage – Ask questions. Start conversations. Build trust. Even if engagement ebbs and flows, keep showing up.

But who are you actually talking to?

Your content has to meet people where they are—not where you are. Let’s go through the five stages of customer awareness from Eugene Schwartz’s “Breakthrough Advertising”:

- Stage 1: Unaware – They don’t even know they have a problem. Your job is gentle education through story-driven posts. Normalize what they’re feeling and introduce new insights.

- Stage 2: Problem Aware – They know something’s wrong but don’t know what to do. Connect the dots for them—bridge their symptoms to myofunctional therapy.

- Stage 3: Solution Aware – They know what myofunctional therapy is, but they don’t know you. Build trust. Show what makes you different.

- Stage 4: Product Aware – They know you, they’ve followed you, maybe downloaded a freebie—but something’s holding them back. Share testimonials, FAQs, behind-the-scenes content. Give gentle nudges.

- Stage 5: Most Aware – They’re ready! Make it easy to book. Have clear calls to action. Speak directly to them.

You’ll always have followers in every stage, so your content needs a mix. It’s not about going viral—it’s about being visible to the right person at the right time.

Still not sure what to post? Try these:

- “Why I started my myofunctional therapy business and what I’d do differently.”
- “3 signs your child might be mouth breathing and why it matters more than you think.”
- “Curious about Myo but not sure what it looks like? Here’s a peek behind the scenes.”

And remember, you don’t need 10,000 followers. You need one post that helps one person feel seen.

Finally, how do you structure posts?

Problem → Solution → Value Add → Offer

Example: What is the specific problem? Why is it a problem? What causes it? Then explain the solution. Add value with something they can apply. And wrap it up with a soft offer or CTA.

Your action step today: Pick one of the five awareness stages. Then pick one of the three E’s. Create one post that speaks to that person. Don’t overthink it. Just post it.

If this episode gave you a boost, share it with someone. And if you’re serious about turning your side hustle into your main thing, maybe you need to get inside Ditch Hygiene Academy™. It’s my step-by-step blueprint that shows you exactly how to go from “Where do I even start?” to “I’ve got a waitlist.”

You've got this. Go make content that connects. And keep working on building a life you are bonkers about.

See you next time, my friend, for more myofunctional therapy business goodness. Bye for now.
